Electric Bikes

By default, the console shows the battery left, speed, total distance and pedal assist level. Nothing feels cheap, plastic-y, or vulnerable to quick failure. It all seems like a robust and well-built electric bike. You also get two different frame sizes to choose from, which is a big upgrade over the single one-size-fits-all frames that many e-bike companies still offer.

In addition to the 5 assist levels, there are 7 gears. I really like the pedal assist and gear combination. On slow steep hills or trails a lower gear with a bit of assist keeps you moving. The lowest gear is a nice big ring in the back for helping on those hills.

They’re a Toshiba SCiB unit, and have, on paper, an insane cycle life. It’s not fast – you’ll cruise comfortably at 12-14mph, maybe a bit faster if you pedal, but this is a rather slow running bicycle. You’re also not going to tuck down over the bars, ever.

Teal Schwinn ebike electric bike with step-thru frame and 36v 12Ah battery, along with rear rack and fenders. The left brake lever schwinn dealers controls the front brakes and the right the rear, as is standard. On the left bar, there’s the controller for the motor.

For now, however, Class 3 e-bikes hit the highest regulated speed. When Schwinn contacted me about reviewing one of the bikes, I chose the Coston DX in the step-thru version, which makes for easy mounting. The Coston DX is distinguished from the Coston CE and the Marshall by a larger battery (360 watt-hours versus 288 watt-hours in the other two), giving it a range of up-to 45 miles (versus 35 for the other two). It also has upgraded fenders, a rear rack and a unique storage saddle that opens like a clamshell with the hinge in the nose and has room for your wallet, phone, energy bars or a multi-tool. All three models have headlights, taillights and integrated downtube lights for full visibility.

Experience the thrill of riding with the added benefit of electric power. Whether you’re commuting to work or exploring the great outdoors, Schwinn eBikes are designed to enhance your riding experience and make every journey enjoyable. The IC4 is built around an impressively stable and beefy steel frame, even under the hardest out-of-the-saddle pedaling efforts. The frame supports a belt-driven 40 lb weighted flywheel with 100 levels of magnetic resistance.
