We’re always looking out for keen riders who are planning trips so we are open to receiving sponsorship proposals to consider. We recommend noting down your frame number (located on the underside of the Bottom Bracket) and using one of the many online services available. Product PresentationGenesis created the global product presentation for the world’s largest quality bicycle manufacturer. Despite being already expansive, the Genesis Bikes brand continues to grow, with the British company striking out even further to the gravel/adventure cross market. Genesis are building a reputation for thoughtful and well designed bikes so it is fair to say that there had been a sense of expectation once we knew the Alpitude was winging its way to us.

There aren’t a whole lot of dealers that carry this bike right now, in part because I believe their margins are very low, but it is available online. If you do get it over the Internet there will be some assembly involved and it can take some effort to work with. Ultimately, you get power and decent range here but only genesis bike have a twist throttle to take advantage of it. Pedal assist adds cost and complexity but helps when climbing hills and ultimately extends your range while giving your wrist a break. The pack on this bike is removable and feels pretty solid but the rack it mounts to is high up and fairly rigid which creates more strain.

Cornering is quick and precise with rear wheel drift easily attainable. Genesis are a British brand that have been building decent bikes and a decent reputation so I was looking forward to a chance to see if the positive buzz about the company and their bikes was well earned. Our bikes will take you to those places, fulfill your curiosities and make you remember why going for a ride is one of life’s most brilliant experiences.

With these bikes, the saddles have been changed for a women specific model as well as shorter cranks and narrower handlebars being specced to better suit female proportions. When full, these same concentric rings park bikes safely and securely. The Genesis™ offers two contact points, at front and rear, for locking. The unique concentric design of the Genesis™ bike rack helps guide bikes into proper parking position while providing double the parking space of typical serpentine racks. They include five genesis mountain bike flat bar ‘Day One’ models, the singlespeed drop bar Flyer and seven hardtail mountain bikes. Sitting somewhere in the middle was the Vapour – a cyclo-cross bike that would occupy our thoughts around bikes that can go further… There are, however, a number of points that make this a more versatile bike than the carbon alternative.

Prefitted mudguards and more puncture resistant city tyres are such examples. There aren’t mounting points for front or rear pannier racks; strap on bike-packing bags are the weapon of choice here. Some practically remains, with downtube bottle bosses (useful for holding extra water or a tool keg) and discrete mudguard mounts.

I listed “no mounting points for cargo” as a con but with the limited support here and somewhat delicate battery interface I think they made the right call. Driving this bike is a 500 watt direct drive (gearless) rear hub motor. It offers decent power and operates smoothly without creating much noise. The drawbacks here are weight and size because the motor relies on big magnets inside to create power. Also, when coasting or pedaling without assist the magnets may create some drag vs. a geared motor with a freewheeling mechanism. It also does not take advantage of regenerative braking which some other gearless systems offer but overall it’s durable and gets the job done.
