Genesis Bicycles

The groupset is Shimano Tiagra with a 2×10 drivetrain while the maximum tyre size is 25c. For those interested in dipping their toes into racing, or just want a sportier feeling bike, the Zeal range is Genesis’ entry level carbon option. The geometry is more aggressive than the endurance-oriented Equilibrium, but not quite as ‘head-down bum-up’ as the dedicated racers that are the Zeros. A solid steel range and a smattering of aluminium and carbon models brings the brand bang up to date. 500 watt direct drive motor is quiet and capable but offers less torque and weighs more, no regen modes. Simple to operate with LED console and twist throttle only, no pedal assist or LCD……

Note that when I was test riding this bike I bumped my knee on the battery when swinging my leg over the back. Some of the low-step ProdecoTech bikes like the Stride R help eliminate this concern. These are Genesis’ entry-level road bikes and are the cheapest in their range. The geometry is a little more upright, making for a more comfortable and less twitchy ride. There are mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack, which expands the range of use from just road riding to commuting and even lightweight cycle touring. The Venerable Croix de Fer frameset has been a mainstay of the Genesis range since 2009.

Gravel riding, endurance road riding, cycle-touring, commuting, these are all still possible on this bike – it’s just a more accessible platform to get started with. Inexpensive full sized folding electric bike with 26″ wheels and basic suspension fork. Rear-heavy design with hub motor and battery mounted towards the back, single support strut… Well priced hardtail mountain bike with light weight titanium frame and larger 29″ wheels. Excellent balance and aesthetic appeal with grip drive front hub motor and bottle style battery…… The low price point makes it easy to get excited about the Genesis 500 but you are trading functionality, range and stability. Prodeco Technologies offers a generous two year warranty but the fine print says it doesn’t cover normal wear and tear on the battery from use which seems misleading to me.

In our most epic adventure to date, Sophie and Jérémy set off for a two-and-a-half-year journey from Alaska to Patagonia – the length of the Americas! On board a pair of Longitudes, they aim to finish in December 2019.Back at home, Alex Staniforth covers the UK’s 100 highest points on bike, foot and – if needed – kayak! Our Vapour genesis mountain bike gets the carbon treatment, the Zero goes disc, while Connor Swift races a prototype Zero SL to victory at its first outing. There’s also a posh Croix de Fer in 931 guise, the Equilibrium and Day One get disc brakes and the prototype Fugio 853 makes it into production – just in time for Vin Cox to thrash it across the TransIowa.
