Electronic bikes and scooters hit Kent campus

“When you are pushing towards the limit on those, it can fail, so my approach is over spec it, charge it slowly and don’t stress the batteries out too much. Mark credited his success to using so many batteries and stressed this is a key safety feature that ensures they are not being overworked. But when his electric bike stopped working in February this year, he started kent bayside cruiser thinking. However, on Wednesday, April 13, when I drove by the University Inn, I was not pleased to see TWO scooters laying down in the middle of the sidewalk. With a front suspension fork that isn’t much to write home about but still works just fine, the bike is somewhat sporty. We built a classic front yard ramp and had fun seeing who could get the most air.

If a ride ends outside of a GeoZone, SPIN will email the user with a warning. SPIN will relocate bikes and eScooters throughout the day and ensure that they are parked in GeoZones. SPIN can be contacted to pick up or remove any eBikes(s) or eScooter(s) from campus and/or other Kent locations. Kent State kent electric bike University partners with SPIN to provide shared eBikes and eScooters that are available on campus and within the City of Kent for use by students, faculty, staff, and the community. Riding an eBike or an eScooter is a fast, easy way to get from class to class, run errands, and even a short commute.

In addition to serving college students and downtown visitors, Spin is a lifeline for people in Fort Collins who don’t have transportation. Now I ride mostly for recreation/activity (health), and when possible I commute. And yes, the Lectric XPremium is probably the best game in time now when it comes to mid-drives at affordable prices. For just a bit more at $1,799, the dual batteries, significantly higher power/speed, hydraulic disc brakes, and a pile of other features blow this Kent bike away. But Lectric’s model is also a folding fat tire e-bike and won’t fulfill the trail bike role that Kent’s offering here claims to satisfy. With a price of $1,498, Kent’s mid-drive e-bike certainly isn’t competing with the several thousand dollar models that use German mid-drive motors, and so it likely opts for a Chinese motor.

On my second test ride, I tried out the short 3.4-mile singletrack trail that we ride each week. But I ended up popping both the front and rear tire tubes, probably due to my weight stressing the tubes. Popping a tube wouldn’t be so bad, except I had to walk the bike the remainder of the trail. Everything was going great until I encountered a 11%, 6-degree incline.

This system will hopefully stop users from leaving their vehicles in trash cans and on top of roofs. “As long as you’re within that area and if not then let’s say you’re a block away, you just walk to the nearest spot,” said Jim Kraus, the senior assistant director for the department of recreational services. Making trips to downtown Kent will be more accessible for students– as well as trips to grocery stores and other shopping locations within SPIN’s GeoZone. Within the zone, there are a few no-riding zones, however, those areas are either parking lots or places with high traffic.
