How to Prepare for Multi-Day Backpacking Trips

I know some will immediately dismiss my review simply because I bought this pack at WalMart. I’ve been attempting to drop weight for the past several years, mostly because my knees can’t handle it. My shelters have gotten lighter as have my sleeping system — next in line for a diet was my carry system.

I wrap my bladder with a small bath towel (or you could get an insulated water bladder pouch for it) to keep it cool and my gear dry. The pack size and weight is good for all my day hiking to any shower. I’m not sure if it is durable enough to hold any of my camera equipment. This pack will make great for a day at the beach with an extra change of clothes, flip flops, keys, tanning oil, towel and a iPod or stuff your lightweight sleeping bag and a jacket. If you are adding warm drinks to your ice, you will see reductions in the overall length of time your ice will stay cold. Many trip failures can be traced to the planning process or something overlooked in preparation.

For anyone in the market for a cooler that works and won’t break the bank, I would absolutely take a serious look at what Ozark Trail has to offer. But by the end of the test, it was still going strong—for far longer, in total, than Black Diamond’s advertised run time of five hours on high. At the same time, my head wasn’t zero or six feet from the door, but about two or three feet at all times. When I first got the bag, I had issues with shoulder straps that pulls the bag up higher/lower on the back. Most of our hikes are seven miles or less but we are combing the hikes so I’m wearing the bag for hours.
