Schwinn Coston CE electric bike review: I love these awesome side lights!

It’s good because everything on the bike feels solid and borderline rugged. The downside is this bike feels about as heavy as a light-armored vehicle. The bike tops out at around 57 pounds, which is tank-like in the biking world. By comparison, my poor, neglected Trek bike weighs around 25 pounds. That’s a big difference when you’re picking up the bike to turn it around or put it on a car rack.

This makes it easy for riders that are new to e-bikes. Another consideration to keep in mind when choosing an e-bike (or any bike for that matter) is your height. Schwinn has electric bikes that fit riders from 4’8″ all the way up to those who are 6’4″.

For seniors, we recommend an e-bike with a step-thru frame and upright riding position. This frame style makes it easier to get on and off the bike, and an upright riding position is easier on the lower back. The frame is also designed to be lighter for easier handling, and includes wider tires for extra stability. Examples of this style include both the Coston DX and Mendocino Step-Thru models. Headlights, taillights, and integrated frame lights help you see and be seen in low-light conditions.

You can plug the battery in while it’s inside the bike, or you can use an included key to remove the battery from the bike for charging. As reviewed, the bike didn’t have much in the way of storage, but schwinn electric bike other models have a rear rack and even storage in the seat. Speaking of the seat, it’s not the most comfortable I’ve ridden on, but that’s easy enough to replace with a third-party seat if you like.

The Schwinn Coston DX is a Class 2 e-bike, which means that it has a throttle that is capable of reaching up to 20 mph without pedaling. Its motor is hub-mounted, and it has a 360-watt-hour battery. Use the included charging cable to connect the battery to a standard household outlet. Front and rear mechanical disc brakes deliver all-weather stopping power and speed control. You can ride with confidence through rain, dust, and more. If you’re over 6′, you probably already know that less than 15 percent of the American population is as tall as you.

The battery is easy to recharge with a standard household outlet and the included charging cable. Ride up to 20 MPH with the 250-watt brushless geared hub drive pedal assist motor that gives you a boost while you pedal. Choose from several levels of assistance or use the throttle instead. Take your adventure further than ever before with an electric mountain bike.

The front and rear lights are attached to the fenders while the bottom lights are part of the battery itself. If it’s a bright night and you just want some mongoose excursion visibility, the bottom lights work well. Otherwise, the headlight is adjustable to your preference, and the rear light is built into the fender itself.

The Coston DX does have a flat-out great lighting system, with a bright headlight, taillight, and running light beneath the central frame that provides solid surrounding visibility. It also has a hidden pocket in the seat, which is a pretty neat way to store your phone, keys, and other small items. It looks like a tough, no-nonsense bike that verges on mountain bike durability. The layout is also comfortable, with a seat and ergonomic setup that is suited to long rides. Upgrading to a larger capacity battery will allow you cover greater distances and/or ride for a longer period before needing to recharge. It looks just odd enough for drivers to take a second look in a “what the heck is that thing?
