I’ve carried it in bad weather, including rain and snow. Some days this bag was heavier than I would have chosen it to be. However, it took a pretty good beating and has held up. The only thing ozark trail backpack I might add is a liner for wet days, like a small plastic trash bag. Overall, it could have been roomier, but the weight savings were attractive to me with only one spar instead of two.
I priced other internal frame daypacks before my trip and this was by far the cheapest. I took this pack on a 5-day mountain bike ride from Pittsburgh, Pa., to Washington, D.C., and it performed very well. Trailspace’s community of gear reviewers has field-tested and rated the top daypacks. Walmart had a small section of packs and for the most part I was satisfied. I decided to get this one for a light hike I was going to be doing while camping.
I also use a Marmot 20 liter pack which does have a thin hipbelt, but it is more limited space-wise and weighs a couple of ounces more. Because it’s basically a single compartment stuff bag, I did have to make sure the items inside were distributed properly. I have used the hydration compartment for items like my iPad.
It was completely full and with it properly fitted to my back it worked great and feels good on my back. The stitching wasn’t as good as the premium brand but, it was still a well-built bag that should last if I didn’t over stuff it. Make sure to let a friend or family member know what you’re doing and where you’re going. Tell someone how many days you’ll be gone and approximately where you think you’ll stay each night.
I’ll also share lessons I believe we as designers can take from this movie. The set-up was understandably a few steps shorter, which is always nice when setting up in the dark. More than once in the dark I’ve attached a rain fly upside down and we had to restart that particular step. So if you ordered more than one item on a single order and receive only a part of your item don’t worry, you will receive your other items shortly after. Has a hip belt to displace the load off your shoulders. Before purchasing this pack I used a more traditionally styled, and heavier, backpack for daily walks.
