Schwinn Point Beach Cruiser 16 5in Frame 26″Wheel Red PGH#20250

Our newest bike, the AC Performance Plus, is designed to enhance rider comfort with an infinitely adjustable seat and handlebars, a wider step-through and durable, covered stretch pads – all surrounded by a rust-free aluminum frame. A stronger drive train and chain make for easy maintenance while delivering an authentic riding experience indoors. A growing number of US teens and young adults were purchasing imported European sport racing or sport touring bicycles, many fitted with multiple derailleur-shifted gears. Schwinn decided to meet the challenge by developing two lines of sport or road ‘racer’ bicycles.

While most people know Schwinn as a historic Chicago manufacturer, even many avid Wisconsin cyclists don’t realize schwinn bicycles are designed in at Pacific Cycles just off the Beltline Highway on Madison’s west side. And Schwinn’s still-sought after vintage lugged-steel Paramount frames were brazed in Waterford Wisconsin. The new limited-edition Schwinn Collegiate was not only designed in Madison and welded in Detroit, the frames are made from ProMoly steel, a high-tech 4130 Chromoly seamless tubing produced by Plymouth Tube Company, of Plymouth Wisconsin. Today Schwinn launched the 2020 Schwinn Collegiate to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Schwinn brand. The new bike was designed in Madison, and the frames were hand-welded by Detroit Bikes out of Wisconsin-made Promoly Steel.

Riding a bike is a rite of passage for a kid; a passport to worlds beyond the front lawn. Bikes represent fun, freedom, and fresh air – everything that’s good about childhood. Moreover, biking is a healthy pastime that kids will never outgrow. One that encourages them to be active, safe and aware of their surroundings. And once you have a bike, it’s fun, free and easy to do with the entire family. If you’re looking to add a bike to your fleet, I highly recommend Schwinn’s line-up of kids and adult bikes.

Triple Link Pedals accommodate Look, Delta and SPD style cleats to simulate an outdoor riding experience. They easily convert to accept traditional athletic shoes with the snap-in locking toe clips. As a result, Schwinns became increasingly dated in both styling and technology.

By 1975, bicycle customers interested in medium-priced road and touring bicycles had largely gravitated towards Japanese or European brands. In reality, mass-market French manufacturers such as Peugeot were not infrequently criticized for material and assembly quality — as well as stagnant technology — in their low- and mid-level product lines. Nevertheless, Peugeot proudly advertised its victorious racing heritage at every opportunity.

“I consider myself incredibly fortunate to work for such a historic brand as Schwinn. Throughout the past century, Schwinn has been synonymous with bikes, and that rich heritage is something we are very proud of. As people turn to bikes to help navigate the global health crisis, there has never been a more important time to focus on developing new and exciting products. The Schwinn Collegiate is no exception, and we’re thrilled to bring this bike to market with the help of our friends at Detroit Bikes,” said Nando Zucchi, Pacific Cycle President.

Developed from experiences gained in racing, Schwinn established Paramount as their answer to high-end, professional competition bicycles. The Paramount used high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel alloy tubing and expensive brass lug-brazed construction. During the next twenty years, most of the Paramount bikes would be built in limited numbers at a small frame shop headed by Wastyn, in spite of Schwinn’s continued efforts to bring all frame production into the factory. Once your child has their brand new bike ready to take out for a spin, you can look to finding a new Schwinn adult bicycle for yourself and make it a family activity! Adult Schwinn bikes come complete with features that maximize performance, comfort, and ease of riding.
