Bundle up and enjoy a few hours ice-fishing on Kent Lake at Kensington Metropark. Popular access points to Kent Lake include the West Boat Launch and Turtlehead picnic area. Winter catches include bluegill, kent road bike black crappies, yellow perch and the occasional northern pike. The Toboggan Course is located across the road from the Maple Beach parking lot and has been thrilling players and fans for decades.
We’re adding new accessible picnic tables and grills to several picnic shelters throughout the park system. Work continues on installation of new concrete grill pads and securing picnic tables in arrangements that allow for unobstructed movement around them. Trails vary in length from half a mile to two miles and can be combined for an even longer walk. Trails are mainly level, unpaved gravel paths with wooden bridges and boardwalks.
Accessible picnic tables are located within the facility. Kensington Metropark has one Floating Beech Wheelchair available to rent for free, allowing visitors the ability to enjoy the sand and water at Martindale Beach. The chair is available to rent during summer from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Please note, a companion or attendant is required as Metroparks staff will not be able to assist with transfers or pushing the wheelchair on the beach or in the water.

Though you may have signed up for a certain activity with a certain end product, please be aware that your children may find something far more entertaining to do! No matter what they choose to do, we will ensure they are being safe and supervised during their activities. Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7 to facilitate bridge structural strengthening. Also, single-lane at a time on lower and upper roadways will close Monday and Thursday from 10 pm to 4 am next morning to facilitate maintenance.
