Even if you’re not a bike enthusiast, you’ve probably noticed the giant bicycle perched on top of the store at 126 Bushkill St. You can see it as you pass by on Route 22 heading into New Jersey. The CDA on the other hand is less race and more sportive, with relaxed endurance geometry and massive tyre clearance for knobblies so you can truly take it anywhere. You’ll find a range of materials used in Genesis bikes, though the brand is well loved for its steel offerings. Once set and on the bike the first thing that you notice is the high front end, the high rise bars and 6º rise stem are the reason for this and can easily be changed if you prefer to go wide and low. There has been much talk about the Alpitude and the clear design ethos behind it, which was to make a bike that you could take anywhere and ride anything on. The understated finish and determined stance of the Alpitude certainly suggest that this is a bike that will go about its business in a quiet and purposeful manner.

Although the two bikes in this section might both be called the ‘Vapour’ with only the epithets ‘Alloy’ and ‘Carbon’ differentiating them, there are actually significant genesis bike distinctions to be made. If you’re looking for a fun bike that can also do the grunt-work when required, this is the one for you. But if you want a dedicated workhorse, the Croix de Fer or Equilibrium will probably suit you better. The perfect bike for a Bond villain, or a former British national road champion turned TV commentator.

The Datum comes with 32c tyres, which is a bit closer to the ‘road’ end of the spectrum. But there is clearance for up to 38c, so if the conditions require it, this bike is able to handle genesis bike the rougher stuff. Essentially an aluminium version of the Croix de Fer, the CDA features a similar plethora of mounts and wide clearances but comes in at a significantly lower price.

So many models are offered that it can be hard to choose exactly which bike is best for you. In keeping with Genesis’s core values, the line-up is notably consistent in carbon fiber grade and manufacturing process across models (many companies use lower grade materials and outsourced labor for cheaper frames).

Since 2001 Genesis Bikes have had an eye for the finer details, utilising the very best materials and always heading in their own direction. Genesis build bikes that are simply built to go everywhere with you and do a bit of everything. Take your pick from their range of iconic builds such as the Croix De Fer, Fugio, CDA, Vapour, Datum & more. Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways.

The aero features of more expensive bikes are present, with cables are routed internally and the leading edges of the frame are smoothly rounded. The groupset is Shimano Tiagra with a 2×10 drivetrain while the maximum tyre size is 25c. The Vapour is Genesis’ CX race machine and there are three models available (10, 20 and 30). There’s the option of having a full carbon frame at the higher end of the spec too, or a more affordable version with an aluminium frame and carbon fork. Giant is the largest manufacturer of quality bicycles in the world.

A solid steel range and a smattering of aluminium and carbon models brings the brand bang up to date. About three years ago, they brought in e-bikes, which added a new avenue of bicycle access for someone who might need a pedal assist from an electric motor. The service manager, Jimmy Madden, says it has been wonderful to learn about e-bikes since it gets even more family members out on the trail who might otherwise stay home. Genesis also features a wide array of parts, accessories, and apparel.

The big plus with the Alpitude is that it handles truly rough terrain well, the faster you go you better it rides and at no point do you think you are going to break it. Wheels are built around SLX hubs with Alex XED-44 rims, these are shod with Maxxis High Rollers 2.35 tyres. Transmission duties are taken care of by Shimano, shifters are Deore, there is a double SLX chainset, SLX front mech with a short cage XT mech at the rear, brakes are SLX as well. It’s a little bit bling but positivly understated compared to Blytheys..
