I also used to work part-time at my local bike shop, where my duties included advising the shop’s commuter clientele on fenders, racks, and panniers—and installing them, too. I have a Cheetah fat tire mountain ebike and it works like a champ however, a question that I can’t get answered by ecotric nor any replies on my inquiries. I ordered a schwinn beach cruiser 500w and maybe that only explains the motor output but, I received a 450w 12.5 v battery. I wonder if you have a 500w motor wouldn’t you need a 500w battery? I find also for the first month I had it and I mostly use the peddle assist and only use the throttle when crossing streets. I live in Florida so mostly everything is flat no hills.
Ride1UP’s 700 series found its way to our best electric bikes list because we’re still scratching our heads how they packed this much value into an electric commuter bike. As with every list of best e-bikes, ours has some nuance as to why a specific bike was picked — ranging from value and componentry to overall ride feel. We’ve also leaned heavily on e-bikes we’ve tested in-house, though there are a few e-bikes here that were picked based on merit and reputation alone. The 2019 version of the Specialized Sirrus (the name was changed to the Sirrus 1.0), one of our also-great picks from four years ago, went up in price from $430 to $475, despite having suffered cuts in component quality. In 2020, the price remained the same, but the bike had a double chainring in front, in place of the old triple. This reduced the number of gearing options to 14 (as the rear cassette remains a seven-speed), and those gears spanned a narrower range (12 to 32) than the Marin Fairfax 1 covers (11 to 34).
What we really appreciated with the Abound is it gives you more out of the box than most cargo e-bikes. When shopping in this frame style, one almost automatically expects a few ‘add item to cart’ accessories to fully take advantage of a cargo bike. It could be pannier bags, passenger cushions or more. But Aventon does equip the Abound with more than most with the schwinn dealers standard runner boards, storage compartment, and quick-adjust seatpost that offers a little suspension for the rider. This fat bike takes the idea of a an all-terrain e-bike and bolts on a turbo unit. The QuietKat Apex is the company’s top-shelf all-terrain e-bike, featuring a Bafang mid-drive motor for a more responsive ride and better performance on hills.
As part of this partnership, Schwinn will also donate to the Life is Good Kids Foundation. The Kids Foundation works directly with leading childcare organizations to positively impact the quality of care delivered to vulnerable children. The donation will include kids’ Schwinn bikes, as well as a monetary donation. The simple gears and slow pace offer quite a bit to inexperienced commuters. There’s no way you’d go too fast and crash unless you were absolutely not paying attention or following cycling safety.
Ronald Reagan is seen riding one in the 1947 Schwinn catalog. Cruisers are popular among casual bicyclists and vacationers because they are very stable and easy to ride, but their heavy weight and balloon tires tend to make them rather slow. Although the aluminum-framed Priority Continuum Onyx retails (as of this writing) at $1,300—a little over two and a half times the cost of the Marin Fairfax 1—it’s actually inexpensive for a belt-drive hybrid. But this bike is also available only through the Priority website, which means diving into the sometimes-problematic world of online bike shopping. The Mokwheel Basalt may not look all that unusual at first glance.
While we’re sure there’s going to be lots of opinions and questions about why this or that bike didn’t land on our list, these are the 14 e-bikes we’re most excited about right now. This is not a comprehensive list, nor were we able to consider each and every e-bike use case, but we do think all the bikes on this list are a good representation of what’s out there right now. They say the best e-bike is the one you’re most excited to ride, and we couldn’t agree more. Payload capacity, it is a terrific option for the hunter or angler who wants to bring home dinner, and with a 768Wh battery, it has the range to go where the game is. We dismissed Batch Bicycles’ Fitness Bicycle because it uses a freewheel cogset rather than a cassette.
The headlight on our test bike was strong enough for city use—I’d supplement it with our commuter headlight pick if I were taking it on dark suburban bike paths, say—but it had a strobe-y effect that I found distracting. Other than that, the Continuum Onyx was sturdy, comfortable, and fun to ride around town. Now, with that said, Schwinn also does offer independent bike shop beach cruisers. Now, these are gonna be even more expensive, they’re a little bit more high end. I’d say it might be more money than you need to spend on a beach cruiser, typically for the IBD models, but again, it’s up to you if you like that name, or if the bike speaks to you.
But that’s the entry level because we’re focused on value, and we wanna build the best bike we can for as low as possible. And we’ve determined that that price of about 229, 199 is the best we can do from the quality we wanna stand behind, to provide the value back to the customer. If you’re more of a price-oriented shopper, I would definitely say go with Schwinn, it’s a great option. Also the name, it’s classic, it speaks to us, it’s Americana. So I have nothing bad to say about it, I would say $150 range if you’re okay with that two and a half to three and a half star, Schwinn cruisers are a great option. Several years ago, California cyclists adapted the word “cruiser” to their world of sandy beaches, and enjoyed riding old
balloon-tired bikes along the ocean’s edge.
