Schwinns New Ebikes are a Hit and a Miss

My review bike didn’t come with a user manual, so I had to play around with the bike for about five minutes before I figured out how it worked. Basically, the bike turns on once you hold down the power button for a few seconds and the key is meant to release the battery for easier charging — not for ignition. I didn’t have the opportunity to try out the schwinn ebike Monroe before it arrived, so I went on faith. I was also sent the medium frame version, which turned out to be slightly small for me but fortunately, the build ended up being just right for how I like to ride. Schwinn includes a battery charger with the bike, which plugs into any standard wall outlet you’d have in your home, apartment, or office.

Most of the more popular ebikes today use 48-volt systems for greater range and torque. Advantages of a 36-volt system is that they’re typically quieter and lighter. If you’re a heavier rider or will be riding in a hilly area, then a 48-volt system makes more sense. If you prefer less assistance for a more natural pedaling experience or for fitness, schwinn ebike then a 36-volt system would likely be enough. The whole package is aesthetically really old-timey looking — which will not please everybody, though we find it to be really quite charming. It’s surprisingly elegant, and though one friend described it as “goofy” looking, we think that its look suits the intended rider — but more on that below.

For open road riding with traffic you may hit 32 km/h regularly. Then cruising city streets the higher pedal assist and gears help you get up to the 20mph pedal assist limit. It’s easy to switch through the 7 gears with the twist or grip shift. I had to adjust my derailleur a bit on the first ride out so all the gears hit just right but once it was adjusted it was smooth. On slow steep hills or trails a lower gear with a bit of assist keeps you moving.

After charging up the battery, sliding it into the rack system at the back of the bike (which could not be simpler), and locking it into place, you’re ready to go. The bike comes with a key which both locks schwinn beach cruiser the battery in place and enables the bike to be turned on. There is a battery life indicator on the left handlebar, and the Shimano Revo-shift lever — which controls what gear you’re in — on the right.

If this is your first e-bike, take some time to learn about proper maintenance techniques and processes for its electrical and mechanical components. The Schwinn Bicycle Company is one of the oldest bike manufacturers in North America. Fortunately for the founders, this time coincided well with a bicycle boom in the United States. Our team consists of life-long riders who enjoy researching and writing about bikes. Similarly to Healy Ridge 26, this bike has a 250W motor and 280Wh battery at your service.

If it’s a bright night and you just want some visibility, the bottom lights work well. Otherwise, the headlight is adjustable to your preference, and the rear light is built into the fender itself. One thing I miss from previous e-bikes I’ve had was a range estimator that gave you an idea as to how much further you could ride at your present power level under present conditions.
