This vacuum easily collected hair on every surface we tested it on, but we did have to cut it out of the brush roll after each use. We also really enjoyed this vacuum’s brush roll shut-off feature, which made it easier to clean slick surfaces like hardwood and grouted floors. It helped minimize the amount of debris kicked out while suctioning, but you do have to move the vacuum directly over any mess when the shark robotic vacuums brush roll is turned off. Most of the cheaper vacuum cleaners we’ve tested (so far) are too compromised in too many ways for us to throw our word behind them. But unlike our main pick, every inexpensive model we’ve come across needs its belts or filters, or both, replaced at regular intervals to maintain the cleaning performance. You’ll need to pay for those replacements and do the maintenance yourself, too.
It’s compact enough to stay in your trunk too if you want a dedicated product. Otherwise, you’ll get on with one of our other cordless options that also have a hair tool attachment. Otherwise, look out for regular accessories (dusting brushes, crevice tools and so on) for getting into those hard-to-reach areas and removing all traces of pet hair from your home.
While the gap has closed in, the Dyson V15 edges out as the best vacuum between Dyson and Shark. It really works—we’ve never had to tear off of this rolling brush head. It’s a major change even from previous Dyson models, and a big improvement on traditional bristled roller heads. During testing, this handheld vacuum performed best on hard surfaces, easily sucking up both large and small pieces of debris. It did work on carpeting, but shark robotic vacuums several additional passes were needed to pull up dirt and debris from the rug. The brand doesn’t list the vacuum’s runtime, but we found that it generally lasts for around 25 minutes per charge. There’s only one power setting available, but overall, we found it delivered impressive suction that’s more than enough for small cleaning jobs.
By simply moving a switch you can raise / lower a gate on the front of the cleaning head, allowing more room and adjusting suction power. DuoClean technology is basically just a soft roller brush that is designed to work with the traditional brushroll to help suck up large debris or bare floor cleaning. It’s equipped with the upgraded DuoClean brushroll, which now contains “power fins”.
