Ignaz & Frank Schwinn Marin Museum of Bicycling and Mountain Bike Hall of Fame

Nearing my 80th birthday, the daily ride is only about 4 miles around the hood but it still climbs the hills and flys back down again. Nearly maintenance free for 38 years, i blew a rear sprocket gear 3 years ago but every thing but the seat and tires remain original. It’s a great bike and shifts better than the grandkids stuff. I had been shopping around for an old steel 26-inch mountain bike to convert into a touring bike when this Schwinn High Sierra popped up on Craigslist nearby. I didn’t know anything about the High Sierra as I wasn’t even born yet when it came out. It fit all my criteria so I took a little drive to check it out.

On the plus side, the fork takes a few of the sting out of driving bumpy trails, but beyond that, it actually… With its stylish design, you’ll look great while riding it too! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, the Schwinn Mountain Bike Bonafide Men’s is a great choice. As expected, we could only find one Schwinn mountain bike for women that customers rated 4.0 or higher, and that bike is the 26″ Ladies Schwinn Sidewinder.

The one good thing I can say is the fork doesn’t have a harsh bottom out and has a linear feel thanks to its coil spring. With plenty of stiction, I didn’t find a need to use the lockout for climbing or pedaling. The frame does have a tapered head tube, so if buyers happen to find a smoking-good deal on a fork upgrade it should fit. While the drivetrain and the wheels perform well, the brakes and suspension will leave most mountain bikers wanting more.

All that noise makes me hesitant to really push the bike on the descents, fearful that the whole thing just might fall apart. Schwinn also offers a limited range of sizes for their bikes, which means that you may not be able to find one that is the perfect fit for you. This can be frustrating for some consumers, but it is important to remember that Schwinn makes quality products and they are worth the investment. Nishiki has a wide range of bikes to choose from, so you’re sure to find one that suits your needs. Whether you’re looking for a mountain bike, road bike, or even a kid’s bike, Nishiki has something for you. Schwinn also offers a wide range of drivetrain options, from entry-level to high-end.

This is great for those who want to mount panniers The likelihood of heel strikes is low. One drawback to the long chainstays is that it makes the bike a bit less nimble. The frame geometry is pretty similar to a modern touring bike.

This bike is suited to shorter people than the Traxion, so Schwinn has given it smaller wheels at the size of 26″. This makes it much better for the user and does add a lot of control to the rider but takes away some top speed. The geometry is comfortable, and this bike is going to be a pleasure to go on and off-road with. These bikes will suit users from 5’0″ all the way to 6’5″ depending on the frame size. I’ll echo Gerow and say the biggest advantages are fewer punctures plus improved ride feel and handling. New riders will especially appreciate the potential for fewer flats!

At that point I asked the budding photographer to pull over into the parking lot of the local Schwinn shop. Back in those days most towns had a local Schwinn shop. In the shop, I hurriedly purchased a Schwinn High Plains mountain bike for $335. I wrote a check (remember those?) And so began my cycling career…well, not really. I actually called my sister and had her come and get me and the bike in her Chevy S-10 pickup.

The Paramount continued as a limited production model, built in small numbers in a small apportioned area of the old Chicago assembly factory. The new frame and component technology incorporated in the Paramount largely failed to reach Schwinn’s mass-market bicycle lines. W. Schwinn, grandson Frank Valentine Schwinn took over management of the company. The High Sierra features a nice mix of high-end components from Shimano, Suntour, Dia-Compe, and other manufacturers of the day.

W. Schwinn tasked a new team to plan future business strategy, consisting of marketing supervisor Ray Burch, general manager Bill Stoeffhaas, and design supervisor Al Fritz. To make the schwinn electric bike bike your own, you can install racks for hauling gear. You could install different handlebars or a more comfortable saddle. Some riders even do a drop bar conversion for gravel riding.

They provide excellent stopping power and stay adjusted. I have not had to touch them since installing the new pads. I like how the brake lever snaps back when I release it. With a Schwinn mountain bike, you can get any of the three brake mongoose excursion designs, such as linear-pull, mechanical discs, or hydraulic discs. On the other hand, bikes with multiple sizes are offered in small, medium, and large frames, which is the case with Schwinn Mesa and Schwinn High Timber bikes.
